World Schools Debating Championships 2017

We are very proud of Marie Davidsen Buhl from 3i who has just returned from the World Schools Debating Championships in Bali, Indonesia. At Monday’s Morning Assembly, she told us about her exciting experience being in the competition and also that the Danish national team, advanced as far as the octofinals, landing themselves in a final placement of 12th best team out of 50 participating nations from around the world. Marie and her teammates managed to win the award of “Best Team with English as a Foreign Language”, while Singapore took home the title of World Champions of 2017.

Marie also told us that Nørre G has its own debate club! If you think debating sounds interesting, keep an eye out on Lectio for the details of our intro meeting. Don’t be intimidated: debating is new to pretty much everyone in Denmark, so meetings are kept very chill and easy. “And,” said Marie, “– as if debating was not amazing enough to make all of you show up – we eat cake every time!”

For an even better impression of WSDC, below is one of the daily tournament update videos (in which Team Denmark is also interviewed). You can also find and read Marie’s own description of the experience on this page.
