Educational Support and Feedback
Electronic Communication - IT
All students are given a personal email account and access to the school’s electronic communication system ("Lectio").
Although the school cannot demand that students have fast Internet access from home, it is highly recommended.
During the school year, all information is passed on to students electronically: general information from the IB coordinator and others, grade reports, absence records, teaching materials and messages from subject teachers as well as communication between students. For this reason a daily check of Lectio is mandatory.
Study Skills
Pre-IB and IB are demanding courses of academic study which require a total of at least 40-50 hours of work every week during the school year. Good study habits and the ability to plan are paramount. Students are expected to play an active and self-motivated role in their educational process: they can only be taught if they themselves want to learn / study.
To help students develop the necessary study skills, the study counsellor introduces general aspects which are supported by extensive materials and links on the school website. In addition, teachers will focus on subject specific study methods.
Students and subject teachers meet for consultations during the year to discuss students’ progress and work habits. Parents are more than welcome to attend those consultations.
Homework assistance is provided by maths and science teachers once a week after the 4th module. Information about exact times is found on the notice board and in Lectio.
Assessment
Students will be tested regularly in all subjects to monitor their understanding of the subject matter and their own progress. Overall feedback in the form of grades and statements about work habits will be given four times during the year - see calendar on "Lectio".
In pre-IB there are end-of-year exams in languages and subjects selected by the Ministry of Education (C-level, stx).
For IB DP Year 1 (2i), written end-of-year exams in June are conducted in all subjects chosen by the students - and oral exams in languages.
IB DP Year 2 (3i) Mock Exams take place in March to prepare for the final exams in May.
The end-of-year assessment is a vital component in the school's decision about the student's eligibility for progress within the IB system. There is no 'automatic' continuation from one year to the next.
