Naturally, most IB students want to study abroad, and a great number of our students plan to study outside of Denmark. Many Nørre G IB students have successfully completed studies at various UK universities, some have gone to Sweden, Germany or the Netherlands, or further overseas to the USA or Australia.
During their studies at Nørre G, interested students are offered advisory sessions in which I introduce them to their possibilities of studying abroad.
When a decision is made, I help them with their application process and we discuss requirements and costs. I monitor how students are progressing with their applications which I check, approve and submit. Most universities abroad require an official school reference; I provide these on the basis of the respective subject teachers’ comments.
Students can always contact me by email for a meeting where we discuss their plans and their options (mz@norreg.dk).
As an IB exam is highly rated at universities throughout the world, the majority of our IB applicants are given more than one offer at universities abroad.
Careers advice
Since September 2010 Nørre Gymnasium has been working with Mentor Academicus , an organisation formed by an IB alumnus, to develop a new and innovative approach to careers advice. In addition to our in-school guidance counselor, we now offer our 3rd year IB students the opportunity to connect electronically with a carefully selected group of alumni mentors.
This innovative e-mentoring approach provides students with continuous access to guidance from alumni that are experts in the student's academic and professional field of interest. In addition, the school now also organise a number of lectures throughout the year by alumni on their academic and professional experiences in Denmark and abroad.
The mentorship focuses on four key areas: university applications; planning a gap year; adapting to university life; internships and job applications.
Collectively the mentors have studied at most of the top educational institutions in the world such as Harvard University in the United States and the University of Copenhagen in Denmark, as well as most of the top universities in the UK including:
• University of Cambridge
• London School of Economics and Political Science
• University of Oxford
• University College London
• Kings College London
• University of Manchester
• Imperial College London
• University of Southampton
• University of Warrick
• Queen Mary, University of London
