UNESCO Sustainable Development Goals School

As of the current academic year (2020-2021), Nørre Gymnasium og IB World School has become part of the worldwide network of UNESCO schools.

As a part of the UNESCO network, we will work determinedly to incorporate the UN Sustainable Development Goals all over the school. We will strive to make sustainability and the UN world goals part of the learning environment as well as our socializing both in school and at other times. Furthermore, we will make a greater effort to better the environment focusing on green technology. We will, for example, mount solar power cells which on the roofs of the school buildings, we have installed automatic lighting in all rooms, and we have several further initiatives in the pipeline. We will draw up an environmental report to help us follow up on our environmental improvements.

In joining the international network of UNESCO schools, we also wish to open the school to the world and give students and staff the opportunity to strengthen their intercultural skills and develop their global outlook. Together with other UNESCO schools, we will participate in meetings and network in order to gather inspiration for our future work.

In December of 2020, all our 2nd year students will work in a cross-curricular project on sustainable food in association with the world goals. In March of 2021, all the year 1 and year 2 classes will each work with the UN Sustainable Development Goals through an innovative process finding the best ideas for making a sustainable school.

In order to strengthen the student democracy, we have formed a World Goal Committee comprised of students, teachers and management. The World Goal Committee will direct the way we will go as a whole. In all our IB classes, the Sustainable Development Goals are already embodied in the IB World Schools’ stated objective and curricula – with which we are already well on the way.
